MAMALAND MUSHROOM FARMS AT NANE NANE AGRICULTURAL SHOWS: SOLAR DRYING AND AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES.

MAMALAND MUSHROOM FARMS AT NANE NANE AGRICULTURAL SHOWS:
SOLAR DRYING AND AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES.

Preservation of agricultural produce is one of the central problems faced by developing countries. And as time goes on, these problems will be aggravated by the growing dietary needs of the ever increasing population of these countries.
In many developing countries large quantities of fruits and vegetables spoil due to inadequate infrastructure, insufficient processing capacities, and growing marketing difficulties caused by intensifying competition and protectionism in the worldwide agricultural markets. Up to 70 per cent of agricultural products spoil during the traditional process of open-air drying, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. Drying these products can help solve these problems, while also making an important contribution to improving the population's income and supply situation.
Drying is an important form of food preservation that is often carried out at farm level right after harvest, or especially with highly perishable crops, at peak harvest time when local markets are saturated. Drying vegetables, fruits and meat with thermal energy enables longer storage times and easier transportation. Up to 70 per cent of agricultural products spoil during the traditional process of open-air drying, especially in tropical and subtropical regions.
Agricultural products can be dried open-air or unimproved, directly in the sun, with biomass or in solar dryers.
Open-air or unimproved drying takes place when food is exposed to the sun and wind by placing it in trays, on racks, or on the ground. The advantage of drying products directly open-air is that almost no costs for fuel and appliances have to be spent by the farmer. However, the dried products are often of lower quality due to varying temperature levels and contamination of the products with dust, vermin’s and leafs.

MEET OUR TEAM THERE.

MEET OUR TEAM THERE.

Every year Tanzania celebrates Nane Nane Day on the 8th of August in recognition the important contribution of farmers to the national economy. Nane Nane loosely translated means “eight eight” in Swahili is an agricultural trade fair which takes place in main cities of Tanzania where farmers and other agricultural stakeholders (e.g. Universities and research institutes, input suppliers or fertilizer producing industries) showcase new technologies, ideas, discoveries and alternative solutions concerning the agricultural sector. This is also a chance for government and private firms to present their services and activities to the public.

Mamaland Mushroom Farms in collaboration with Morogoro Municipal Council will also participate in this year’s celebration from 1th to 10th August 2018 at Morogoro Nane Nane Trade Fair Ground. MAMALAND MUSHROOM FARMS IS LOCATED IN TANZANIA, AFRICA.

MAMALAND MUSHROOM FARMS IS LOCATED IN TANZANIA, AFRICA.

CONTINENT: Africa is the wellspring of the human race. The second largest continent in the world in both area and population, it offers the visitor a unique blend of natural wonders, renowned prehistoric sites, numerous and often sprawling remains of several of the world's greatest ancient civilizations, vibrant cultures, remote villages and modern cities. Africa has shorelines on the Indian Ocean to the southeast, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Red Sea to the northeast, the Gulf of Aden slightly further south, and the Mediterranean Sea to the north. This huge continent is more than 8,000 km (5,000 mi) across north-south and 7,500 km (4,800 mi) east-west with some islands even further out and contains many vastly different peoples, religions, and cultures. Africa has 55 sovereign countries—the most of any continent.
Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro is the world's tallest free-standing mountain at 5,890 m (19,340 ft).The whole human race is from the African origin. The oldest known skeletal found of anatomically modern human beings (or Homo sapiens) have been found at parts of East Africa (Olduvai Gorge),Tanzania.

COUNTRY: Tanzania is an East African country known for its vast wilderness areas. They include the plains of Serengeti National Park, a safari mecca populated by the “big five” game (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino), and Kilimanjaro National Park, home to Africa’s highest mountain. Offshore lie the tropical islands of Zanzibar, with Arabic influences, and Mafia, with a marine park home to whale sharks and coral reefs. Mount Kilimanjaro or just Kilimanjaro, with its three volcanic cones, "Kibo", "Mawenzi", and "Shira", is a dormant volcano in Tanzania. It is the highest mountain in Africa, about 4,900 metres from its base to 5,895 metres above sea level.
COMPANY: Mamaland Mushroom Farms is the first registered agribusiness specialized in edible and medicinal mushroom which harnessing, processing and preserving the edible fruit bodies of Afrocantharellus, Lactarius, Russula, Termitomyces and Amanita for storage and markerting in Tanzania.
Our Research, Development & Product Designing Department (RDPSD) continues with trials on the domestication of indigenous mushrooms, particularly edible ones. PLEUROTUS SPECIE (OYSTER MUSHROOMS).

PLEUROTUS SPECIE (OYSTER MUSHROOMS).

Oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) are a type of medicinal mushroom. Often consumed as a food, it’s also available in dietary supplement form. In certain systems of traditional medicine (such as traditional African and Chinese medicine), oyster mushrooms are used to treat a variety of health conditions.
Oyster mushrooms contain a number of substances thought to influence health. These substances include beta-glucan and several other polysaccharides (a class of carbohydrates found to affect immune function).
Uses for Oyster Mushrooms.
In alternative medicine, oyster mushrooms are said to help treat the following health problems:
-Atherosclerosis,
-Diabetes,
- High cholesterol,
-Respiratory tract infections.
In addition, oyster mushrooms are purported to stimulate the immune system and protect against some forms of cancer.
Benefits of Oyster Mushrooms.
So far, few scientific studies have focused on oyster mushrooms. While there’s currently a lack of clinical trials testing the effects of oyster mushrooms, some preliminary research shows that the fungus may offer certain benefits. Here’s a look at some of the available evidence for oyster mushroom’s health effects:
1) High Cholesterol.
Several animal-based studies suggest that oyster mushrooms may help lower your cholesterol and protect against hardening of the arteries. For example, a preliminary study published in Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology in 2003 found that oyster mushrooms may reduce total cholesterol levels.
In tests on rats, the study’s authors also observed that treatment with oyster mushroom helped increase the animals’ antioxidant status and decrease their levels of triglycerides. High triglyceride levels have been associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
2) Cancer.
Some preliminary research indicates that oyster mushrooms may possess cancer-fighting properties. This research includes a study published in International Journal of Oncology in 2008, in which tests on human cells demonstrated that an oyster mushroom extract may suppress the growth and spread of breast cancer and colon cancer.
Additionally, a mouse-based study published in the International Journal of Medicinal Mushrooms in 2011 determined that an oyster mushroom extract may fight tumor growth, in part by activating certain immune cells.
Alternatives to Oyster Mushrooms.
There are several types of medicinal mushrooms that may help strengthen your immune system. These mushrooms include maitake, ganoderma, and shiitake.Getting your fill of immune-boosting foods may also help enhance your immune function.
For help in keeping your cholesterol in check, make sure to get plenty of soluble fiber (found in a wide range of foods, including grains, legumes, fruits, and vegetables), limit your intake of saturated fats, and load up on omega-3 fatty acids.
There’s also some evidence that drinking green tea on a regular basis and consuming plant sterols may help combat high cholesterol.
Where to Find Them.
Oyster mushrooms are sold as a whole food in our MAMALAND /CAGRATA FARM MARKETS. You can also buy oyster mushrooms from farms specializing in natural products like Mamaland Mushroom Farms food stores.
